I guess that things could be much much worse.
Twas hoping for a swap to bring Catalanotto from the Rangers. He's got decent stats:
OBP SLG OPS
.391 .490 .882

I'm pretending this "signing" hasn't happened.
Now we are getting into that, "Why didn't we keep Robbie, sign Cedeno" kind of logic.
Well, why didn't we sign Cedeno and just keep Robbie?

Because then we wouldn't have all the prospects that came with the Alomar trade. And personally, I don't like Cedeno, and well I think that the combination of Lawton and Gutierrez is a better defensive combo then Alomar and Cedeno. Like I said, a huge benefit with the trade was looking to the future. Come on Alex...be more big picture thinking.

sorry, but a non-power hitting shortstop with no speed being signed for Wil Cordero type of money is not found on ANY decent ball club.
I doubt Gutierrors is better overall than Jolbert Cabrera.
At least Cabrera will steal 20-30 bases in a season.

Boy, how will Mikesopp and the gang spin THIS move? Four mil for this guy? That's what Cedeno got! What are they doing? It's "Major Leagues" come to life.

Can someone answer this?
How can we afford to sign someone for 3 yrs at 11/12 million?
I thought we were slashing payroll. Guess that means no Juan or any other free agents.

I don't like this signing at all.
They are going to make him into a second baseman...sigh...look at his fielding stats as a 2B. http://espn.go.com/mlb/profiles/stat...ding/5004.html
Not very impressive. I would have thought they would have been able to get Vina at the same price. Why didn't they do that?
Looks like he is our new number 2 hitter. His stats are way better at number 2 then any other slot in the order.

These are Vina's fielding stats, I just love that DP number he puts up. http://espn.go.com/mlb/profiles/stat...ding/4995.html

Oh I guess Vina was not a free agent. For some reason I heard he was. Oh well. I guess the Guttierez signing is not that bad. Although...now I am curious, who got dumped off of the 40 man roster because of the move?
